About Us

Your hosts, Marie & Ken Baird

Both are retired. Ken conducted his business in disaster/crisis management and Marie was a business manager in trustee law.

Since retiring they have spent 4 years working in service in the United Kingdom and France. Both Ken and Marie enjoy walking, cycling and fine dining, including the partaking of New Zealand’s wonderful wines.

After selling their property in Palmerston North, they embarked on their new project: the design and build of the new property @Taupo.

Our Approach

We assure our guests a comfortable night’s sleep in surroundings that leave no stone unturned. We adhere to the highest possible hygiene standards to provide all guests with a luxurious sleep experience in a bed made especially for them.

Our Story

We moved from our successful Palmerston North bed and breakfast, Riverhills, where we achieved top ratings, to this new site in Taupo where we are able to have leisurely walks to the lakeside and take advantage of the numerous bike trails.

The bespoke layout of the property ensures privacy for guests, with an ensuite in each room, and provides the ambience for social interactions over a glass of choice with the hosts in the garden in the evening or during breakfast as they make plans for the day.

Having spent several years overseas working in manor homes in England and luxury villas in the south of France, in addition to extensive travel internationally, we have an appreciation for the way people live, and created a unique New Zealand experience @Taupo.

We enjoy welcoming our guests who, over many years, have shared interesting insights into their country, culture and way of life. We really appreciate the diversity.

Experience Taupo

Taupo, a town near the centre of New Zealand’s North Island, is distinguished by its lakefront setting and outdoor sports ranging from fishing to jet-boating. The vast waters of Lake Taupo, a volcanic caldera, drain into the Huka Falls, dramatic, crystal-blue cascades reachable by hiking and biking trails. Surrounding Taupo are hot springs like those filling the Craters of the Moon reserve.

Your hosts took the opportunity to create a place where you can enjoy your Taupo stay in a modern, private bed and breakfast that lived up to the standards their many previous guests experienced.
